Seven Horses

Seven horses draw the chariot of Sun, the Lord of Light. The chariot has only one wheel and it is driven by Anura, who has no legs. A driver who cannot move - a chariot which does not stop. What a beautiful way to depict the nature of light!

Light travels in the form of waves at a speed of four to seven hundred million million waves per second! The difference in wavelengths is witnessed by human eye in the form of seven colours. When a light ray passes through a prism, it produces a spectrum of seven colours —with blue having highest wavelength and red with least wavelength. The spectrum analysed by Newton can be witnessed in a rainbow! There are three primary colours; Red, Yellow and Blue. They are independent and cannot be prepared by combining any other colours. But all other colours can be created from these three colours. In human beings, too, there are three characteristics (“guna”) similar to the primary colours.

They are - Sat, Rajo and Tamas. Three colours in external world - the three “gunas” in internal world! Life is nothing but to explore these three characteristics!

If any two of the primary colours are mixed in equal quantities, one would get secondary colours, such as orange, green and violet. Two contrasting colours are called complimentary colours, such as yellow and violet and they compete with each other like a hero and villain. A colour wheel has 12 different colours. It has primary and secondary colours adjacent to one another, but complimentary colours in opposite directions. If one were to understand the concept of colour wheel, one can find several interesting and pleasing colour combinations in the nature. We can find out colours that give relief to our minds. Black and white photographs of yesteryears with dark colours and oil paintings of Ravi Verma with light colour combinations will give a wonderful look to the walls. When we get up late, we find sunlight irritating. To feel the freshness of dawn, orange helps if painted on balcony walls!
